August Activities

Swarthmore Olympics
Our residents loved watching the Olympics, so we brought the excitement right to Swarthmore! We hosted our own games, featuring events like the duster sprint, cup stacking, beanbag shotput, balloon tennis, and more. It was a day filled with friendly competition and fun for everyone. All participants received trophies and rosettes to celebrate their achievements.

Picnic
We had planned a picnic at the Common in GX, but the weather had other plans. Undeterred, we transformed the lounge into a cozy picnic spot, complete with the Edinburgh Military Tattoo playing in the background. A delightful spread was laid out on the picnic table, allowing residents to enjoy a wonderful feast indoors.

Shopping Trip
We took a trip to Windsor for some retail therapy, visiting M&S and Daniels Department Store for a bit of clothes shopping. The afternoon was made even sweeter with a stop at an old-fashioned sweet shop. By the end of the day, everyone was happily exhausted from the busy afternoon.

Sensory Activity
Ann Park hosted a sensory afternoon at the home, where residents had the chance to explore the wonderful aromas of herbs from the garden. It was the perfect opportunity to enjoy the pleasant weather and the beauty of the garden.

Baking
Our residents did a spot of baking this month.  A victoria sponge and butterfly cakes to enjoy with their afternoon tea. The delicious treats were a hit!

Cake Tasting
Darvell & Sons Bakery treated us to an afternoon of cake tasting, bringing back sweet memories for our residents. Dorothy claimed the London cheesecake, while Jim, who enjoyed sampling all the cakes, might need his trousers let out a bit! Claire now has a list of requests for next time. We’ll focus on bread next time!

New to You Boutique
What started as a staff clothes exchange turned into a delightful event for our residents. When they heard about the boutique, they wanted to join in, so Wendy brought the clothes rails downstairs. Residents were thrilled to find new slippers, tops, and dresses. We’re also collecting donations for two charities, making the event even more meaningful!
