Another Busy Month at Swarthmore
It’s been another wonderfully busy month here at Swarthmore, filled with laughter, creativity, learning, and plenty of memorable moments shared together.
We kicked things off with a cheese and wine tasting afternoon, sampling a delicious selection of cheeses from Italy, France, and England. Residents enjoyed discovering what makes each cheese unique while soaking up great flavours, great company… oh là là! 🍷🧀
Fun and friendly competition followed with Bird Bingo, complete with prizes and lots of smiles — two very happy residents were crowned winners!
Our Tea & Memories session took us on a nostalgic journey as we discussed Vintage Beauty. Residents enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories from years gone by, and one lucky resident even won a prize.
Curiosity and laughter filled the room during our Sci-Fi Afternoon. From classic favourites like E.T., Planet of the Apes, and the iconic Mash advert, to conversations about space and the possibility of life on other planets, it sparked a fascinating discussion. We even brought out the telescope for a closer look at the skies!
Creativity continued at Art Club, where residents worked on some beautiful pieces. We certainly have some very talented artists in the home and are already looking forward to the next session 🎨.
Music took centre stage with a Make Your Own Music activity, using everyday items like paper plates and empty sweet tubs. Playing along to familiar tunes soon turned into a singalong that everyone loved 🎶.
Food lovers were treated to a bacon sandwich tasting session — streaky or back bacon, oven-baked, fried, or grilled. So many choices and plenty of tasters… a delicious success all round!
We were delighted to welcome Ann Park, who spent the afternoon playing a variety of games with residents, and Josh from Samurai Fitness, who leads our weekly energising and accessible chair-based exercises.
Baking was also on the agenda with shortbread making — and yes, it looked (and smelled!) delicious 😋.
One of the highlights of the week was Swarthmore Presents: Stars in Their Eyes ⭐
We’re honestly not sure who had more fun — the residents or the staff! There were incredible performances inspired by Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, and even Annie, along with Scamp and Mr Marvel, craft displays, football stunts, a table tennis tournament, and dancing from Kenya.
As we come to the end of the month laughter filled the home with a fun game called “Fill Your Granny Pants!” — a huge hit that worked perfectly for room visits too. Even the staff couldn’t resist joining in! A brilliant activity that also helps support cognitive skills while keeping everyone smiling.
Another month packed full of fun, connection, and meaningful moments at Swarthmore — and we wouldn’t have it any other way 💙
