As part of the Jubilee Celebrations we came together with the FaNs group (Friends and Neighbours of Care Homes) to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee. Rushymead, Windsor Lodge and Swarthmore Care Home came together in Chalfont St Peter’s church hall to celebrate with a buffet lunch and musical entertainment. Lizzie Allsopp https://www.elysiaallsopp.com/ sang 1940’s songs to our resident.
There was plenty of time to join in for a sing song to some of the all time favourites. I am sure this was a lovely time to reminisce for some. I asked some of our residents what memories triggered whilst listening to the songs. Residents remember Saturday nights in the local dance halls; this was a regular social meet for most people as they remember doing the waltz, foxtrot, swing, rumba.
The afternoon was spent with lots of singing amongst residents and staff, a good exercise for the body to move to the music. We ended the afternoon with a celebratory drink to our Queen.
Residents came back expressing what a lovely afternoon they had and I hear most of them had a late afternoon nap….. Obviously enjoyed themselves.
