July Activities

A Busy Month of Creativity, Culture & Community

July has flown by with another busy and fulfilling month here at Swarthmore! Our calendar has been packed with exciting outings, hands-on crafts, and joyful moments together in the house.

One of the highlights was a rhythmic and energetic drumming session with Martin from Osagyefo Theatre Company. Residents and staff joined in playing traditional Djembe and Kpanlogo drums from Ghana, learning a few authentic rhythms and sharing the joy of music and movement together. The energy was infectious, and the room was filled with smiles!

We also took a wonderful trip out to the Stanley Spencer Museum in Cookham, where we explored the life and art of one of Britain’s most distinctive painters. Spencer’s captivating blend of spirituality, realism, and imagination sparked deep conversations and reflection. It was an inspiring afternoon, full of discovery—everyone left having learned something new.

Back at home, creativity continued with a bee house building project, where residents showed great focus and care in crafting homes for our garden pollinators. This lovely little activity not only promoted concentration and teamwork but will also support wildlife in Swarthmore’s gardens.

From rhythm to reflection and nature to nurturing, it’s been a month to remember. Stay tuned for more adventures!
