July was another busy and enjoyable month at Swarthmore care home, filled with fun, friendship and memorable experiences.
Residents embraced the Wimbledon spirit with an indoor tennis match before enjoying the traditional strawberries and cream. We also spent time learning about the traditions of Eid, with staff sharing its meaning and preparing a wonderful selection of food for everyone to enjoy together.
The sunshine gave us plenty of opportunities to get outdoors, including feeding the ducks in Windsor, a picnic on Gerrards Cross Common, and a nostalgic visit to the Chiltern Open Air Museum.
Creativity was in full bloom as residents decorated glass jars with tea lights, creating beautiful handmade displays for our lounge while enjoying conversation and time together.
Our seaside-themed day brought the coast to Swarthmore with traditional fish and chips, classic fairground games and lots of laughter in the sunshine. We also celebrated Bastille Day with a French-themed bingo morning and an afternoon of delicious food tasting – ooh là là!
One of the month’s biggest highlights was a visit from Wild Science, where residents met an amazing variety of creatures, including snakes, a tarantula, a gecko, giant African land snails and more. It was an engaging, hands-on experience that sparked curiosity and plenty of smiles.
We rounded off the month with another fantastic Summer Gathering. Surrounded by wonderful people, live music, delicious food and great company, it was a truly special occasion. Our thanks go to everyone who attended, the Methodist Church, Revd Adam Wells, the Mayor of Gerrards Cross, Celia Stuart-Lee, our Trustees, and our dedicated staff and Activities Team for making the event such a success.
July was filled with laughter, creativity, learning and community spirit, and we look forward to making even more happy memories together in August.
