June Round-Up: Fun, Friendship and Special Moments
June has been filled with wonderful experiences, creativity, laughter, and meaningful moments for our residents. From trips out and entertainment to arts and crafts and treasured reminiscence sessions, there has been something for everyone to enjoy.
The month began with plenty of smiles and laughter during a lively game of skittles, bringing out everyone’s competitive spirit and creating lots of fun along the way.
We were delighted to help make a very special wish come true when one of our residents enjoyed a lovely day out to Savill Gardens accompanied by friends. A huge thank you to Ann Marie for arranging such a memorable experience. Creating opportunities and making wishes become reality is always incredibly special.
Creativity was in full bloom during our arts and crafts sessions. Residents spent time creating beautiful daffodils from pipe cleaners and colourful summer collages featuring flowers, sunshine, insects and seasonal scenes. These activities not only allowed everyone to express themselves artistically but also helped support fine motor skills, concentration, and hand-eye coordination. The vibrant creations sparked conversations, happy memories and a wonderful sense of achievement.
Music and entertainment also brought relaxation throughout the month. Residents enjoyed a fantastic afternoon with Talia and her accordion, with plenty of singing, dancing, toe-tapping and waving along to favourite tunes. Later in the month, Philip Heymen serenaded residents during the warmer weather, creating a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.
We also enjoyed several activities designed to stimulate memories and encourage conversation. Reminiscence activities can play an important role in supporting memory recall, communication, emotional wellbeing and social interaction, while helping create meaningful connections and shared experiences.
Trips out continued to provide memorable moments, including a visit to the Stanley Spencer Art Gallery in Cookham and a trip to the International School of Creative Arts to enjoy their end-of-term exhibition. Residents also enjoyed an afternoon at Get Set for Tennis. Residents have been working together on preparing a beautiful hanging basket which will brighten our patio and entrance area.
Father’s Day was marked with a lovely treat as residents enjoyed coffee and cake at Pizza Express in Gerrards Cross — a wonderful opportunity to spend time together and celebrate the occasion.
As temperatures rose, keeping cool became the order of the week. Residents enjoyed plenty of ice cream, cold drinks and jelly drops to stay refreshed and hydrated during the hot weather.
The month ended with a traditional Punch and Judy show that brought back fond childhood memories. Following the performance, residents shared stories and memories of seaside holidays from years gone by. As Punch would say, “That’s the way to do it!”
Every activity throughout the month has helped support wellbeing, confidence, social connections and happiness, while creating many special moments and treasured memories.
