June Activities

Train Carriage Planting

Residents at Swarthmore Care Home have thoroughly enjoyed being out in the sunshine, engaging in the delightful activity of planting up the NCB train. This charming train, crafted many years ago by our talented maintenance man Eddie, remains a centerpiece and a beloved attraction as you approach the entrance of Swarthmore Care Home. The vibrant and colourful display of flowers brings joy and a touch of nature’s beauty to everyone who sees it, making it a highlight for visitors and residents alike.

Enjoying the Sunshine

Staff at Swarthmore are dedicated to ensuring that residents make the most of the sunny days. Whenever the sun decides to show its face, you can find our residents outside, enjoying the warmth and fresh air. This not only lifts their spirits but also contributes significantly to their overall well-being.

Exercise and Laughter

Physical activity is an essential part of maintaining health and vitality, and our residents are no exception. Every week, Kelly from Samurai Fitness puts our residents to the test with invigorating exercise sessions. Kelly’s enthusiasm is infectious, and our residents look forward to these sessions with great anticipation. These regular exercise routines not only help in keeping them physically fit but also fill the air with laughter and joy, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.

A Creative Week

One of our residents had a particularly creative week, showcasing her many talents. Engaging in artistic activities is highly beneficial, stimulating the brain in various ways. These creative sessions are known to improve psychological and behavioral symptoms, enhance social skills and communication, and can even alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and dementia. Art, in its many forms, provides a therapeutic outlet and a means for personal expression, which is deeply valued by our residents.

A Wonderful Visit

We enjoyed a wonderful visit to the retirement home for horses in Speen. The weather was kind, providing the perfect backdrop for our outing. Residents had the pleasure of interacting with the gentle horses and soaking in the serene environment. To top it off, we were able to enjoy a delightful picnic, making the day truly memorable.

Table Tennis at the Hub

Our residents had another exciting week of table tennis at the hub. Jim and Ann Marie had a particularly thrilling game, showcasing their competitive spirits. Their match was highly entertaining for the rest of us, we cheered them on with enthusiasm. Activities like these not only keep our residents physically active but also provide a platform for social interaction and fun.

Flower Arranging

Flower arranging remains a beloved activity at Swarthmore, with residents contributing to the creation of stunning displays. This week, we have another magnificent display for the entrance hall. Using a mix of foliage from our very own garden, residents have crafted a dramatic and beautiful arrangement. Somewhere amidst this display, our residents are hidden, their joy and pride evident in the vibrant colors and intricate designs.

Happy Father’s Day

Father’s Day was a special occasion at Swarthmore, marked by celebrations and treats. We honored the fathers among us with a delicious celebration cake, and of course, a pint to wash it down. The day was filled with heartfelt moments, as residents shared stories and laughter, making it a truly special celebration.

Windsor Royal Exchange

A perfect day out, the sun came out whilst waiting for royalty to appear down the long walk.  We managed to see King Charles and Queen Camilla, along with other members of the Royal Family.  A memorable day for everyone.
