May Activities

May has been a mixture of sunshine and showers but that hasn’t stopped the staff and residents at Swarthmore from being very active.

Residents were invited by the Rotary Club of Gerrards Cross & The Chalfonts to a wonderful afternoon tea at the Dumb Bell along with other members.  The scones were delightful, so compliments to the chef and many thanks to the Rotary Club for thinking of Swarthmore once again.

We finally got a game of tennis in the sun at The Hub in Maple Cross.  Jim & Biddy had a really good game whilst enjoying the glorious weather.

A green fingers week – the ladies and gents put on their gardening gloves and started to prepare the pots for the patio.  We hope to see the flowers flourish on the patio in the coming weeks.  A trip to Flowerland garden centre in Iver allowed our residents to choose more flowers to place in the train at the entrance to Swarthmore.  Walking around the centre admiring all the plant variations and colours was therapeutic.  Of course, we had to sample the coffee to complete the morning.

David Pullinger from the Talks service who spoke to our residents and described  how the Red Cross stepped in at Cliveden during World War 1.

Mary came from Wild Science this afternoon, informing us all a little about the animals habitat.  Everyone was introduced to a. chinchilla, gecko, african snail, corn snake, tortoise, and gerbils.
