A Joyful Month at Swarthmore Care Home
This month at Swarthmore, we’ve been bustling with activities that brought learning, laughter, and the festive spirit to our residents. Here’s a look at the wonderful experiences we’ve shared together:
A Festive Outing
Our early Christmas shopping trip to the local garden centres was a delightful success, topped off with warming cups of hot chocolate. The festive displays got everyone into the festivities.
An Orchid Masterclass
We had the pleasure of hosting Swarthmore photographer, Paul Upward, who gave an insightful talk on his passion for orchids. Residents learned the secrets of nurturing these beautiful plants, making it an enriching and informative session for all.
Celebrating Diwali
Thanks to Sonam, Harpreet, and Ann, our wonderful carers, who brought the spirit of Diwali into our home. The celebrations included Rangoli art and a food-tasting session, which were thoroughly enjoyed by residents and guests alike.
A Walk Down Memory Lane with Amersham Museum
The Amersham Museum visited us with a fascinating collection of vintage toys. This intergenerational activity was made even more special with the presence of the girls from St. Mary’s Girls’ School. Together, they shared stories of playtimes past and future, while also chatting about plans for Christmas. Smiles and laughter filled the room as memories and traditions connected the generations.
New to You Boutique
Our residents spent a lovely afternoon browsing through a “New to You Boutique,” where they selected pre-loved clothing. For many, it was a wonderful opportunity to refresh their wardrobe without needing to leave the home. Recycling clothes not only brought joy to our residents but also helped us contribute to sustainability by:
- Reducing waste of new materials
- Lowering energy consumption
- Minimizing air and water pollution
- Cutting carbon emissions
Get Set 4 Tennis
Another lively session of seated tennis had our residents showcasing their competitive spirit. Their enthusiasm and teamwork made for a fantastic afternoon full of energy and camaraderie.
A Special Birthday Celebration
We celebrated a milestone birthday for one of our cherished residents with a stunning cake created by our talented carer, Dot. If anyone needs a beautifully crafted cake, she’s the person to ask.
Creative Christmas Lanterns
Anne Park spent a creative afternoon guiding our residents through the intricate process of designing Christmas lanterns. The detailed work produced beautiful, flowing lantern that are sure to brighten up our home.
Christmas Baking Fun
Our cookery session this month focused on making a traditional fruit cake for our Christmas gathering. Looking forward to tasting.
From festive crafts to intergenerational conversations and sustainable shopping, this month has been a true celebration of community and creativity.
