It has been a wonderfully busy and memorable time at Swarthmore, with our residents enjoying a fantastic variety of activities, outings and special moments together.
As autumn arrives, we enjoyed an afternoon of baking bread and scones, filling the home with the wonderful smell of freshly baked treats. There’s nothing better than sitting down afterwards with a warm scone, jam, cream and a comforting cup of tea.
Our residents have also enjoyed plenty of opportunities to get creative, from completing a beautiful photo collage to making wooden birds for our wishing tree and decorating autumn leaves for a colourful seasonal display. These activities are always a lovely opportunity for residents and staff to share ideas, enjoy one another’s company and showcase their creativity.
We have also enjoyed some wonderful days out and opportunities to connect with our local community. A visit to The Horses Trust in Speen gave us the chance to make some new friends, while we were delighted to attend a lovely afternoon at The Dumb Bell in Chalfont St Peter, hosted by the Rotary Club of Gerrards Cross & The Chalfonts. We are incredibly grateful for their kind invitation and continued support.
Back at Swarthmore, our regular visitors Thula and Didi have continued to bring plenty of smiles, cuddles and joy during their much-loved dog therapy visits. Their visits are always eagerly anticipated and are a wonderful part of life at Swarthmore.
There have been celebrations and milestones too. We said a fond farewell to Em as she began an exciting new chapter at university, wishing her every success for the future. We also welcomed Isabelle to the Swarthmore family as one of our new Activity Assistants — we are delighted to have her on the team.
We also said a very special farewell to Marion, who retired after an incredible 23 years as a Housekeeper. We are hugely grateful for her dedication, commitment and hard work over so many years, and she will be greatly missed.
Another reason to celebrate was Kelly’s amazing achievement in completing the 50K Thames Path Ultra Challenge. Kelly had set herself a target of 12–14 hours, but finished in an incredible 9 hours, 25 minutes and 18 seconds! Her fundraising has also raised an impressive £1,433 for charity — a fantastic achievement all round.
And, of course, there has been plenty of time for simple pleasures too, from pamper afternoons and nail painting to fun and games, laughter and time spent together.
It has been a month filled with friendship, creativity, community, celebration and plenty of happy memories. We look forward to many more special moments together at Swarthmore. ❤️
